Cyrano de Bergerac launches the Nose Bus!
. . Gary Beer, a chemistry student at the University of Kent at Canterbury, happily volunteered to be Cyrano de Bergerac. Unhappily, the arrangements for the nose didn't quite work. However, it made for some fun for himself and his colleagues who assisted in showing delegates around that day.

A particularly amusing incident involved one of Withersdane Hall's caterers. Legend has it that the Staff Dining Room at Withersdane is haunted - by a cavalier. The lady had just emerged from the said room when she caught a fleeting glimpse of Gary (in full 'regalia') walking towards the fire exit of the Dining Room! She momentarily had the fright of her life - until she realised he was very human. Needless to say, it caused much mirth amongst the rest of the kitchen staff, and also those of us who heard the tale.

It has to be said, Gary did indeed resemble one of the portraits in that room: the picture of the very man whose ghost he accidentally imitated!

Another of the kitchen staff was very disappointed that it wasn't Gerard Depardieu ... well, we would have hired him if we could.
